Gummy Smile
While Anti-Wrinkle Injections are best known for their rejuvenating results, they have a number of other uses too, including treating a ‘gummy smile’.
A gummy smile is when the top lip rises well above the teeth, exposing visible gums. For many this can lead to a lack of confidence, with some patients too embarrassed to smile. Now more and more patients in the UK are having Botox® injections to stop the lip rising so far, decreasing the amount of gum on display. This non-surgical option is less painful, less traumatic and cheaper.
How do Gummy Smile treatments work?
Botox® injections are a simple yet effective solution. The injections into the hyperactive upper lip muscles, simply reduce its elevation to leave less gum exposed. All other facial expressions remain the same, ensuring a natural and subtle result. This treatment can also be combined with lip filler treatments to carefully enhance the lip further.
All patients will attend a review 3-4 weeks following treatment to reassess the area and the results. This is a temporary treatment and patients will need to be re-treated every 3 to 6 months to maintain their results.
Botox® is a prescription-only medicine, all patients are required to have a face-to-face consultation before a treatment can take place (as per the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines).
